A planning application is currently being prepared on behalf of Sheet Anchor Evolve for the redevelopment of the Queens Walk, East Grinstead. The purpose of this website is allow you the opportunity to view and comment on the design proposals prior to the submission of a planning application to Mid-Sussex District Council.
Martell’s department store occupies the majority of the site. The store extends along Queens Walk and there is a service yard and car parking area to the rear. Nos. 1 – 4 Newman Gardens occupy a proportion of the site and there are a number of vacant properties fronting onto Queen’s Road, which also forms part of the site.
Queens Walk is in need of regeneration and, as such, the site has been identified for comprehensive redevelopment for a number of years in the East Grinstead Town Centre Masterplan (2006) and the Mid Sussex District Local Development Framework (2008) and most recently the East Grinstead Town Council’s draft Neighbourhood Plan (2015).
It is the intention to redevelop the site to provide up to 120 new homes on the upper floors. The new homes will be provided with amenity space and there will be some car parking. The ground floor of the building will provide new commercial spaces for new shops, leisure uses and restaurants and cafes. Martell’s department store will be relocated to a new premises on the High Street. Queens Walk will be transformed, the roof over the walkway will be removed, to allow light into the space and the new units on the ground floor.
The design will continue to evolve through discussions with the project team, Mid-Sussex District Council; East Grinstead Town Council; and as a result of the public consultation. It is anticipated that the planning application will be submitted prior to Christmas 2015.
